A second step towards sustainable approach (bio-degradable cutlery/nutlery)

During our Fellowship at AMAL, we have been assigned to do the MEGAPROJECTS in our circles. We the members of circle 2 had decided to focus on the sustainability of the environment and planned to do something in order to keep our environment green and clean.

We deeply focused on the fact that the use of single use plastic has been increased in the past few years specially all the restaurants are using the plastic cutlery. Since then we focused towards the development of the edible cutlery and named it as “Nutlery”.

In our previous blog we focused on the recipe of the edible cutlery and its broachers to attract the people specially the restaurant owners.

In the previous few weeks we tried to bake the cutlery in home by the final recipe developed by the circle leader Areeba Munir. Fortunately it gave the wonderful results, as the cutlery had the same stiffness that we expected and that would help people to eat as efficiently as of plastic spoons.

Since Sir Hamza and Ma’am Huda drove our considerations towards the fact that the people will be more interested in the recipe and making video of the process of cutlery making. So we made and edited the video of whole process so that it will become more presentable.

We also searched out the groups on the facebook that will probably help us in our campaign and the most effective group that we found was the eco-freak.

At the same time we also focused on the preparations of the packages so that they can look attractive and presentable. We opted for the paper packages so that it will look as if we have fully focused on the sustainability of the environment. We have made the bags in such a way that the cutlery may not come out from them.

The major challenge which our circle is facing is about time management as most of us are having exams and mids. At the same time it is also necessary to make cutlery just the day before we distribute it otherwise it will loose its quality.

We have not started the distribution of the cutlery yet, but we have shared our idea on the social platform so that the people who want to support it can do it. Unfortunately didn’t receive any feedback yet.

We are now planning to distribute to the restaurants our edible cutlery and our target market is hotels of Gulshan.

We are very optimistic that we will achieve our target of distribution InShaAllah soon. We hope that the people who are focusing on the ecosystem greenery, will surely like our idea and support it. But we are currently focusing on the distribution of cutlery in person to the restaurant’s owner.
